Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy, often called PT, treats the musculoskeletal aspects of chronic pain problems. Physical therapists strive to prevent the onset and or slow the progression of conditions resulting from injury, disease or other causes. Patients may experience functional problems from back and neck injuries, strains/sprains and fractures, arthritis, strokes, work and sports injuries, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy, among others.

Physical Therapy may include:
Manual Therapy: specialized hands-on treatments consisting of joint mobilization and soft tissue techniques designed to decrease pain, restore movement and improve function

Modalities: Physical Therapists may use different modalities for pain relief, muscle spasm, inflammation, swelling, increasing movement and strength including hot/cold intervention, traction, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation).

Exercise: Exercise is a core component of treatment plans. Programs may include stabilization, strengthening, flexibility and aerobic conditioning. Exercises are progressed and customized to each individual's condition and specific recovery goals.

Postural Awareness: patients are educated about correct sitting and standing postures, ergonomics and bending and lifting techniques.

Functional Conditioning: Patients are instructed in functional training for work related issues, home activities and recreational interests.

Education: All patients are educated about their condition and provided with important information and strategies to assist in self-management and prevention of further injury.

Physical therapy programs that are geared towards instructing the patient in self- care techniques and injury prevention are found to be the most effective in returning patients to active and healthy lifestyles. Our programs are highly customized to help patients achieve specific goals and adjusted throughout the treatment cycle to optimize results.
